I'm in the mood for spring! Especially with the sunshine and warmer weather outside. Sure, it may be a bit unusual for this time in February to be around 40 degrees out, but I certainly won't complain!
I used some patterned paper from my Mariposa Matstack, and, in keeping with the butterfly theme, made the cutest little butterfly embellishment. I found the tutorial for it here: http://www.papercraftcentral.com/paper-butterfly.html

This is this week's card sketch from Mojo Monday. I wanted to use something other than a big heart on the tag, because I feel like I've been making a lot of Valentine themed cards, so I decided on this cute little dog die cut from my Cricut. After that, somehow, everything else went back to Valentine's Day with the colors and the hearts. Oh well, the whole month of February is about love, right? Since I used a black background, I put a lining in the inside of the card so any writing done in this card will show up. Happy Monday, everyone! Who's familiar with Operation Write Home? I don't know why I have never heard of this organization before, but I think its brilliant! You can ship your handmade cards to Operation Write Home and they will send them on to our deployed troops! Our troops can then select a card from the shipment to write in and send to their families. What an absolutely wonderful way to help our military families stay in touch! If you would like to know more about this organization, visit their website at http://operationwritehome.org/ I visited their blog today and I see they have a sketch challenge. I used the sketch to come up with this card. I cut the circle out of the front panel with my cricut, and then embossed the polka dots with clear embossing powder. Then I used several different ink colors to make a resist effect. The scalloped edges were also cut with my cricut, and the sentiment was stamped and embossed as well. I just ordered my free Operation Write Home rubber stamp, so once it comes maybe I'll be able to send a variety of cards in. The hearts are all stamped, and so is the "thinking of you" sentiment. I also stamped the polka dots and heat embossed them with ZING! clear embossing powder. Added a few embellishments and some detail with a white gel pen to finish it off.
For this card I used my Cricut to cut the scallops along the side. I embossed the images on the front with Versa Mark ink and white embossing powder, and did the same for the sentiment as well. I found some satin ribbon in my scraps that I used to add a bow.
And yet... another Valentine card.
The big red heart is a die cut that I completely heat embossed. First time every trying this technique. I just covered the surface of the heart with Versa Mark ink and then heat embossed the red embossing powder. I love the texture it created. The little heart is embossed as well. I stamped the polka dot background with some Tim Holtz distress ink, and then finished it off with some bits of scrap paper and, of course, a string bow. I try to get a birthday card out to everyone in my family. In fact, I have been teased in the past for being the kind of person that stays home on a Friday night to update her birthday list (you know who you are). Its just one of those sacrifices I make for those I love. You are welcome.
The stamps I used for this one I found in the dollar bin. Can you tell I'm a dollar bin addict? I could spend $20 on things I find there and still feel like I got a good deal. Haha. Anyway, I embossed the background, added a few paper scraps, and slapped a bow on this one and called it a day. I wonder who this birthday card will go to? :) |
