Not sure about you, but this paper flower trend has me totally excited. I love the look of those giant flowers! They are just gorgeous as photo backdrops, wedding decor, nursery embellishments, and party themes! My grapevine wreath needed and update so I turned to the web to try to find paper flower templates. It was disappointing to find that most of the tutorials either wanted you to buy their template, or you had to cut all your flowers by hand. After about three hand-cut flowers I was done! So, taking what I gleaned from other tutorials, I made my own template on Cricut's Design Space. Guys... it is SO SIMPLE! You only need one basic shape- a circle.I have a video below showing exactly how I created my own petal shape and I also have dimensions included. LARGE FLOWER Circle- 3" Petals- 2"x2.75" 12-16 petals per flower MEDIUM FLOWER Circle- 2" Petals- 1 1/2"x 2.25" 8-12 petals per flower SMALL FLOWER Circle- 1 1/2" Petals- 1.25"x1.75" 8 Petals per flower Hope you enjoyed the video! I also have some photos below that show the step by step process, as well as my finished wreath. Step 1 Cut out your flower parts using the dimensions you prefer. The one I am making here is the small flower. Step 2 Take all your petals and cut a slit partway up the center, starting from the bottom. This will create two "flaps". Step 3 Add some adhesive to one of the flaps. You can use tape adhesive, glue dots, hot glue, or anything you prefer. For my photos here I used tape adhesive, but hot glue will hold much stronger. After you have your adhesive added, take the other flap and fold it over to adhere them on top of each other. This will create dimension in your petals. Step 4 Take your assembled petals and adhere them to the circle base. I like to add them symmetrically. This helps me space out the petals evenly. Step 5 Add your center to the flower by taking a long strip of cardstock, cutting fringes all the way along the top, and then rolling it up. Glue the rolled fringe to the middle and you are done! The biggest part of making these flowers is just cutting out the pieces. Once you have the template on your Cricut it goes very quickly! I was able to make enough to cover my wreath in no time at all. For my flowers, I used Canvas Corp's Ivory Cardstock, but you can use whatever color you would like. I hot glued them onto my wreath and then cut out a few leaves with my Cricut as well to fill in a few blank spaces. For the leaves, I also embossed them gold using Brutus Monroe's Gilded Embossing Powder along with their Embossing Ink. Ivory and gold is such a winning combination! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and that you are able to create a ton of these gorgeous paper flowers. Thanks for stopping by!

This stamp set from Brutus Monroe is just fabulous! It has this great floral image and a number of sentiments along with it that can be used for different occasions. I decided to go ahead and make two cards with this stamp, just to show that it can be used in a variety of creative ways.
For this first card, the florals were stamped out using my Misti and Raven Detail Ink. Then the image was colored in using Prismacolor pencils. After fussy cutting the image, I popped it up on some foam adhesive and layered it over some coordinating pieces of paper cut into banner shapes. I also used some Hickory Smoke and Spun Sugar Distress Inks to add some ink splatters to the background, and then tied some white raffia in a bow at the top.
Stunning, yet simple!
Next, I wanted to make another clean and simple card but with a little different spin on the florals. This time, the stamp was stamped using some Versamark ink and then embossed in white embossing powder. After the vellum was cooled, I fussy cut it out and set it aside while I prepared the background. Using some light Distress Inks, Squeezed Lemon and Tumbled Glass, I blended on some soft spotlight colors and then glued the vellum flowers over it. Lastly, I used one of the sentiment stamps from the set and added a simple black strip of cardstock with the sentiment on it over the florals.
That's it for now! Hope you enjoyed this look at this gorgeous stamp set from Brutus Monroe! Im sure you will see this stamp on more projects in the future!
Thanks for stopping by, and happy crafting! More from Marie Nicole...While at Creativation this year, I was blessed to be able to meet Sandra Evertson, the talent behind Relics and Artifacts. She creates these amazingly gorgeous matte craft blanks from treasures she has collected around the world. I would definitely encourage you to check out her store. There are so many unique pieces there! Sandra was so kind to offer to a few of us Canvas Corp designers the opportunity to work with some of her pieces. This is a new area of crafting for me, I have not worked with these blanks in the past. Keeping it simple seemed like the best option for me. Since I have a memory planner that I like to decorate and journal in, making a charm for it was just the natural use for this gorgeous little flower that I received. The flower was painted with a little Tattered Angels Verdigris Glimmer Mist. The greenish-blue along with the gold shimmer took to the blank just beautifully. It almost has a watercolor look to it when dry. The key piece was painted with some Vintage Brass Glimmer Mist, which also has gold shimmer in it. Since Glimmer Mist is somewhat transparent, I did add several layers of the color between drying it with my heat tool until I had the look I wanted. After the pieces were dry, they were attached to a large lobster clasp and chain using some small gold jump rings. Then, to add some more interest to the charm, I used some little brass charm pieces that were picked up at a thrift store. The little pink tassel at the top of the charm was created by wrapping some thin yarn around a piece of cardstock, then tying it and cutting the loops. Very simple, but it adds a little soft texture in contrast with all the metal brass charms. The fact that this charm is handmade and totally unique to me makes it all the more special. The vintage feel of the colors and brass charms also adds to its personality! There are still a number of flower blanks left, as well as some butterfly pieces that I have ideas for. Hopefully I can share them with you in the near future! More from Marie Nicole...ATCs can be a fun way to create a lot of projects for your crafty friends at once. A typical ATC is 2.5x3.5 inches. They are little cards that you can decorate, either all the same or each one unique, and then send or give to friends. For these ATCs, the Brutus Monroe stamp set, From Paris with Love, was used to give more of a vintage Paris feel. The base for these is some Canvas Corp Ivory Cardstock cut down to size. Then, some Damask Tissuestock was adhered down using Tattered Angels Clear Glimmer Glam. Over the tissuestock, I used a French Script background stamp that was inked up with some Raven Detail Ink. The sentiment and the Eiffel tower image are both from the Brutus Monroe stamp set. I stamped the Eiffel tower using my new, all-time favorite tool the Misti, then fussy cut it out and then colored it with some Hickory Smoke Distress Ink. To add some glitz and glam, some glitter washi tape and a gold embossed vellum butterfly added just the right finishing touch. These were so fun to create and send away to the rest of the Brutus Monroe Inspiration Team. There are so many more fun images on this stamp set and I can't wait to get my hands on them and create some more! I'll also be linking this up with: Simon Says Stamp's Monday Challenge! More from Marie Nicole...Today is yet another sneak peek of one of the newBrutus Monroe stamp sets coming out on the 17th! This set is titled, Grow With Me, and is so sweet. It was just perfect to use for Valentine's Day. The hearts from the stamp set were just perfect for stamping out to create a background on thisIvory Cardstock from Canvas Corp. Then, a paper doily along with a number of scrap papers was layered over the stamped hearts. After the papers were layered over the background, I took a heart cut with the Cricut and blended on some Rouge Surface Ink along with some Spun Sugar and Festive Berries Distress Ink to create an ombre effect. The love-bird couple was then stamped out using my Misti and some Raven Detail Ink, and then adhered down using foam adhesive. Then, their clothes were colored in using my Silver Wink of Stella Brush Pen. I grabbed another stamp set from Brutus Monroe and used the "I Love You" sentiment to emboss on vellum, and tucked that little sentiment behind the couple. Lastly, the tag was finished off using some raffia and string to tie around the top. Thanks for stopping by, and don't forget to check out the Brutus Monroe Store on the 17th to see all the new stamp sets that will be available! More from Marie Nicole...If you follow me on social media you have probably already know that I am on the Brutus Monroe Inspiration Team. The team is so fun to be a part of because Brutus Monroe makes some amazing stamps, inks, paper, and more. Stamping is my favorite thing to do and it is what sucked me into the world of papercrafting in the first place, so it feels right at home playing with these goodies! When I saw these adorable little owl stamps, I immediately wanted to watercolor them. I stamped them on this piece of watercolor paper and then used different shades of Distress Inks to color them in. I had originally intended to just practice on these owls and had no intention making them into anything. After the coloring was done, I stamped the sentiment next to the owls and inked around the edges of the paper. It turned out to be a nice little tag! I finished this little tag off by adding a die cut heart in between the owls that I colored with Distress Ink and added some Stickles to. Then, for the string on the tag I added some Canvas Corp Jute Twine. I love the soft natural look that this tag has going on! If you want to see more Brutus Monroe goodies head over to their store! They have a lot of unique stamps and goodies. The best part is they have a library of digital papers and SVG files. Many of them coordinate with the stamp sets and are totally FREE! Thanks so much for stopping by today. I did manage to get a process video of these cute little owls so please watch and enjoy! Happy Crafting! Creativation 2017 was such an exciting and amazing experience! So many new memories were made from helping Canvas Corp Brands set up their booth, to walking the show floor and seeing the major craft companies showcase their new products. One of the new products that is definitely a show stopper is 7Gypsies' new Architextures. These are a variety of vintage-inspired pieces that can be used for mixed media, cardmaking, papercrafting, and anything you can think of! There are rub-ons as well as self adhesive pieces that include vintage Mason jars, dressforms, lanters, trucks, chicken wire, and SO MUCH more! These pieces are meant to look and feel like the real thing. You can see through the glass of the mason jars, and the dress form feels soft just like a real fabric dressform would. CCB had a "Create and Take" table where some of us designers could sit with customers and just create with the new pieces. This little tag here is one that I created with some of the new 7Gypsies Architextures. What's so cool about this piece is that the background is actually made from the Architextures packaging. 7Gypsies cleverly created the packaging to be these amazing designs so that you can cut and create with them, as well. It definitely adds more value to the product! Since the dressform is self-adhesive, it was just adhered down onto the background. Then, with some tissue paper bits and a little bling, I was able to dress her up a bit. The details along the lefthand side is just some torn paper and then bits of another design of Architextures that I cut and pieced together. To finish the tag, I added a few sticker letters to spell the word, "Chic" and then added a lace loop at the top. These Architextures are so much fun to play with! If you are interested in getting your hands on some, they should be available in the Canvas Corp Brands' shop on February 2, 2017. Keep your eyes peeled for them! Im sure we will see some amazing creations coming up using these 7Gypsies Architextures! More From Marie Nicole...Did you get any fun crafting supplies for Christmas? I received a few items this year. The cute little squirrels on this card are from Lawn Fawn's Cheery Christmas stamp set. I stamped them out with Versafine Black ink and then colored them in with my new Prismacolor pencils. I have to say, I am LOVING these new pencils for coloring my stamped images. I am not that great at watercoloring, especially on regular cardstock. I dont like when the paper warps when you add water to it. These pencils blend great and work on my cheap cardstock. I used the coordinating dies from the stamp set to die cut the squirrels and the little heart. Then, I used Lawn Fawn's Stitched Circle Frame Dies to cut out the circle from some blue paper. I adhered that down to some floral paper that I also die cut, using the Stitched Journaling Card die from Lawn Fawn, as well. All my papers I pulled from my scrap bin. I am trying my best to use up scraps! I then cut the background white paper on an angle with the Stitched Border dies, and ahdered it over some red polka dot paper that peeks out on the bottom right corner. I then added the sentiment, the squirrels, and some white twine to the front, and placed the whole stitched journal die cut piece to the front of the card with foam adhesive. Cute, easy card that has a Valentine's Day feel to it, without being too overly red and white. Thanks for checking out my card today! I have been slacking on making YouTube videos lately with the business of the holidays, but I hope to get back into it soon! If you are interested in some of the items I used on this card, I've included some links below. Happy Crafting!! Check out these other fun posts!I was able to squeeze in a little craft time recently (other than cards!) and I decided I wanted to make some Angel wings as some Christmas decor. I have a decorative window hanging in my hallway that I like to hang wreaths, photos, and other decorations on. I saw a few examples of angel wings on Pinterest, and after gathering a few simple supplies, I came up with my own take on them. I first started by hand-drawing out a wing shape of a piece of paper and cutting it out. I then used that wing shape to trace onto a piece of cardboard. To make two matching wings, I just flipped my wing template and traced it on the other side. That was the easiest way for me to get two identical wings. After the wings were traced. I went ahead and cut them out of the cardboard using a box cutter. I then took a little Tattered Angels DIY and Decor paint in the color Crystal and painted it over the cardboard. This was just so that if any cardboard was showing through the coffee filters hopefully it would blend in and not be noticeable.I let the paint dry before moving onto my next step. I took my hot glue gun and started adhering on the coffee filters. I started from the bottom and layered up, folding each coffee filter in half twice to create a little triangle. Once I layered on enough filters to get to the top of the wings, I just wrapped the coffee filters around the curve of the top of the wings to keep that angel wing shape. In the middle of the wings, I wrapped a little Canvas Corp Jute Cord and tied it into a bow. I like the look of the natural twine against the white fluffy filters, but you could also use ribbon or add some flowers, charms, or brooches there, depending on what look you are going for. Then, I wanted to add a little subtle shimmer to the wings, so I took my Tattered Angels Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Mist and spritzed the whole piece. I lightly fluffed the coffee filters while it was still damp, and then hit it with my heat tool to dry. This gave the ruffles more of a random, organic look rather than being all the same. I decided I wanted to hang a little word banner across the wings, so I cut out the word "peace" with my Cricut. I used a light blue color for the background shadow, and then cut some glitter cardstock for the front letters. I like the use of the pastel, non-traditional Christmas colors. I think it makes it more versatile so I can display this piece even after Christmas. If you wanted to go for something more Christmas-y though, you could use glittery gold or silver. I attached the word banner with some Canvas Corp mini clothespins and that finished the piece! I decided to attach the wings to my DIY Candlestick for the photos since it is kind of hard to get a photo of my big hallway window. I actually ended up really liking the wings on the candlestick, though. I think this would be a cute decor piece in a baby girl's nursery or a party. This project was also really quick and easy. It probably took under 30 minutes to complete, including cutting out the wings, painting them and gluing everything in place. It also uses common household items that you probably already have: Coffee Filters Cardboard Hot Glue Gun Twine Letter Cut-Outs (optional) Paint (optional) Glimmer Mist (optional) Thanks for stopping by today!
I've been trying to find different ways to combine my love of scrapbooking and cardmaking. I thought I'd put the two together here and use a small, wallet sized photo on this tag.
I first cut the tag out with my Cricut. Then, I cut the exact same tag again, but this time I used vellum and I cut out a heart that would frame my photo underneath.
On top of the vellum, I drew some dash lines with a gel pen around the heart. I thought that would help it stand out a bit more.
Then, I used my Sizzix to cut out some tiny hearts that are colored with Barn Door Distress Ink, and a "love" sentiment. I cut the word "love" 3 times and then glued them together, giving it more dimension. Then I just glued on my die cuts and a bit of ribbon to the front. So easy! I am thinking about using this tag as a bookmark in my Bible. I can also write a note or memory on the backside of the tag so I can always remember when and where the photo was taken. Thanks for stopping by! I added some links below to a few products I used. Enjoy! |
