This card is in response to Operation Write Home's Midweek Throwdown! The challenge was to make a card using the theme of light. Well, of course I'm counting down the days till spring and warmer weather, so a card about sunshine sounded good to me.
I just kept it simple with a plain craft cardstock background. Then, I drew sun rays on a piece of cardstock, watercolored them, cut them out, and adhered them around the sentiment. Added some dash lines with my white gel pen just to give it a little pop.

I'm in the mood for spring! Especially with the sunshine and warmer weather outside. Sure, it may be a bit unusual for this time in February to be around 40 degrees out, but I certainly won't complain!
I used some patterned paper from my Mariposa Matstack, and, in keeping with the butterfly theme, made the cutest little butterfly embellishment. I found the tutorial for it here: http://www.papercraftcentral.com/paper-butterfly.html This is this week's card sketch from Mojo Monday. I wanted to use something other than a big heart on the tag, because I feel like I've been making a lot of Valentine themed cards, so I decided on this cute little dog die cut from my Cricut. After that, somehow, everything else went back to Valentine's Day with the colors and the hearts. Oh well, the whole month of February is about love, right? Since I used a black background, I put a lining in the inside of the card so any writing done in this card will show up. Happy Monday, everyone! Who's familiar with Operation Write Home? I don't know why I have never heard of this organization before, but I think its brilliant! You can ship your handmade cards to Operation Write Home and they will send them on to our deployed troops! Our troops can then select a card from the shipment to write in and send to their families. What an absolutely wonderful way to help our military families stay in touch! If you would like to know more about this organization, visit their website at http://operationwritehome.org/ I visited their blog today and I see they have a sketch challenge. I used the sketch to come up with this card. I cut the circle out of the front panel with my cricut, and then embossed the polka dots with clear embossing powder. Then I used several different ink colors to make a resist effect. The scalloped edges were also cut with my cricut, and the sentiment was stamped and embossed as well. I just ordered my free Operation Write Home rubber stamp, so once it comes maybe I'll be able to send a variety of cards in. Over at Mojo Monday they post a new card sketch each Monday of the week. This was today's sketch so I thought I'd make an attempt at it. You can probably tell I didn't quite follow it to the letter, but it definitely gave me some inspiration to come up with something a little different! The hearts were heat embossed and the sentiment was stamped. I made a little rosette to use for an embellishment. The background is a piece of leftover burlap that I had from a previous project. Of course I had to add some dash lines with my white gel pen and a string bow to finish it off. Background stamped with polka dots and hot cocoa ink. Dash lines added with white gel pen. Heart stamped and embossed with clear embossing powder. Sentiment stamped and embossed as well.
Background was stamped with a faded script rubber stamp and distress ink. Little hearts were stamped and heat embossed with clear ZING! embossing powders.
The hearts are all stamped, and so is the "thinking of you" sentiment. I also stamped the polka dots and heat embossed them with ZING! clear embossing powder. Added a few embellishments and some detail with a white gel pen to finish it off.
Can you tell I'm having fun with my new Crop-A-Dile Corner Chompers? We went to the craft store the other day to pick up fabric for a different project I am working on and saw the corner chompers on sale. Kaiwi told me to go for it.
All four corners are rounded, and I rounded the two corners on the sentiment banner. The background was stamped and heat embossed. I cut a few flowers with my Cricut and finished it off with a button. Birthday cards are the kind that I make most often. I never seem to have a big enough stash of them.
This one was fun to make. I found my background cardstock on sale so of course I had to pick it up. Most of the other papers I used came from my scrap bin. That's probably one reason I love making cards- they are fast, easy, and you don't have to use up all your paper. I did a little heat embossing on the bottom portion of the middle cardstock, and then rounded the bottom corners to finish it off. |
